The University of Bristol, United Kingdom, has announced its participation in the newly launched Spärck AI Scholarships. The fully funded scholarship is designed to nurture global talents in artificial intelligence and STEM disciplines.
The scholarship program, announced by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), targets “tech innovators with exceptional talent in AI-related disciplines.”
The Spärck AI scholarships are named after pioneering British computer scientist Karen Spärck Jones and who will provide full funding for master’s degrees at Bristol and eight other leading UK universities specialising in artificial intelligence and STEM subjects. The scholarships would be backed by £17.2 million in government funding.
It will be open to at least 100 students at the master’s level in both the United Kingdom and other countries around the world.

Open to international students, this scholarship is fully funded. This means that tuition is fully covered for scholars who are awarded. Living expenses will also be covered.
Candidates will have access to exclusive mentorship opportunities as well as hands-on industry placements and training with the UK’s AI Safety Institute.
Technology firms, including PolyAI, Quantexa, CausaLens, Flok, Beamery, Darktrace, and Faculty, have all signed to provide industry exposure and mentorship to awardees. This is to help them engage directly with artificial intelligence in real-world applications.

AI programmes being introduced at Bristol
To support the scholarship, Bristol is launching four new MSc programs to kick off in the 2026/2027 academic year. The programs are:
- MSc in Artificial Intelligence
- MSc in Engineering with Artificial Intelligence
- MSc in Artificial Intelligence for Business
- MSc in Artificial Intelligence for Medicine and Health
Other universities also participating in the Spärck AI scholarships apart from Bristol University are Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, UCL, Southampton, Edinburgh, Newcastle, and Manchester.
The application for the scholarship opens in the spring of 2026, while the first cohort will begin by October 2026.
